Berlin --> Amsterdam
Today is day three in Berlin and our last as we head to Amsterdam tonight. I had few expectations for this city, but it turned out to be an amazing place. And very different from Copenhagen in so many ways. We saw a lot of the city, but still definitely needed a few more days to fit everything in.
That’s all you’ll get for now because it’s not easy to update from my iPod, but...

Vi ses!
Yesterday and today have been super busy, but I’m in the final stretch with one class left! Last night I had a great early birthday dinner with my host family, packed most of my stuff, and finished a paper. Just now, I had my oral midterm for Danish, which was not nearly as bad as I thought, and my teacher gave us Reeses! (Excuse the terrible photobooth picture.)
So once I print out all...
Anonymous asked: I've had your blog open now for 6 hours straight just to listen to that Rasmus Seebach song and I regret nothing. Have you discovered any other Danish music that you like?

Field Study x2
Today is the second and last time that I will have two field studies in one day, and I have to say that I’m okay with that. I absolutely love field studies, but going straight through the day from 8 in the morning until 7 at night is a little rough.
Anyway, field study number one today was with my Danish class. We started out at the Museum of Danish Resistance. It’s basically a...
justcomealongpond asked: Wow!! I have got to say I LOVE you blog! And it's really interesting seeing Denmark from your perspective - I see people tell you this all the time, but it really is, haha! Especially those random things you notice, which are just completely normal to me - like the bikers in Copenhagen texting and eating while biking. That's completely normal for me! ;) Definitely following! But I want to...

Random Observation #9: Danish TV
Danish TV, surprisingly, isn’t all that different from American TV. In fact, a lot of it is American TV. There are tons of shows I’m used to seeing at home that are on here, like Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, America’s Funniest Home Videos, etc. And then there are the shows that are based on American shows or are almost identical to American shows, including Who...

Random Observation #8: Licorice
I’m pretty sure that to be Danish, you have to like black licorice. Everything is licorice flavored or involves licorice somehow. I’ve seen licorice tea, licorice ice cream, and licorice sprinkles, to name a few. I don’t mind it all that much and will eat it in the gummy mixes it comes it, but it’s definitely not my favorite thing. I don’t think I would ever...

Canal tour, Carlsberg, and Christmas dinner
My parents were here to visit this week! So obviously we did all kinds of great things. I think it might have been a little bit too much to squeeze into 6 days, but it was still a lot of fun. And the weather was great for almost the whole week.
On our first full day, we went on a canal tour and to the Carlsberg Brewery, both things I had really been wanting to do. The canal tour was a little...

Fun Fact of the Day
Did you know…that in Denmark you have to choose your baby’s name off a list of pre-approved names? I didn’t, until last week. Read about it here.

Host Family Living
It has been decided that I’m officially part of the family because I no longer get served first at dinner. Instead, I’ve joined the race to get food every night. I also get to laugh when my host brother sings Jason Derulo in the shower and when anyone says anything wrong in English or accidentally uses Danish in the middle of a sentence in English. I definitely feel more like a part of...

I just had my first Danish hot dog.
It was so good. I’m not sure why I waited so long to get one. I got everything on it, and it was only 20 kroner. Definitely worth it. I’ve now had a hot dog, a crepe, ice cream…I think the only thing left on my list of street food to try is candied nuts. Food is probably the best thing I’ve spent my money on in this country.

I don't have a field study on Wednesday.
What should I do with my day? Any suggestions?

Long Study Tour: Day 6
This is the last day, I promise. In the morning, we had a choice of a few places to go, so I went to a children’s museum called Junibacken, and the Vasa Museum. Junibacken is a museum based on Astrid Lindgren stories, most of which I don’t know, but it was still pretty fun. There were some parts of stories used to create play areas for kids, including Pippi Longstocking’s house,...

Long Study Tour: Day 5
This was one of my favorite days because we started the day with the best visit of the trip. The visit was to a school called Stellanova, which is a Reggio Emilia preschool for children in the area. I always love Reggio, but this place was amazing. The walls were literally covered from floor to ceiling with documentation of what the kids had done, the books for each child were huge and out in the...

Long Study Tour: Day 4
Wednesday was the first day in Stockholm. Our hotel in Stockholm was right next to a huge stadium called the Globe, and a short walk from the Globen T station, so we used metro cards the whole time we were there. And yes, the metro system in Stockholm is called the T, just like in Boston :)
One giant mix up at the hotel and about 20 ice creams later, we headed to lunch in the oldest part of...

Long Study Tour: Day 3
Tuesday was our last day in Tallinn before heading to Stockholm, and we were very busy with two visits. The first visit was to the Laagna School, which is a school for children with special needs that also has a preschool for children with special needs and normally developing children. We got a tour of the whole school, but I also got to sit in on a class with kids ages 7-10.
There were seven...

Long Study Tour: Day 2
On Monday we visited our first school in Tallinn called the Ristiku School. We got a tour of the school and also heard a little about the Estonian education system. In schools for children with special needs, they create groups based on different needs. Depending on the disabilities, the groups can have anywhere from four to twelve students. Most of the students at Ristiku either have dyslexia or...

Long Study Tour: Day 1
Sunday began my long study tour to Tallinn and Stockholm with my Children with Special Needs class. My class met at the airport, got our tickets, and then we were off to Tallinn. After being in three different airports this week, I have to say Copenhagen’s airport is the best. There’s a ton of stuff to do inside the gate, so it wasn’t too bad when we didn’t have a gate...

I'm back!
Last night I got back from my long study tour and I’m still really tired today. But I’m going to try to update about my trip this weekend before I forget the details of all the things we did. I hope you enjoy reading about it!
In other news, I got my residence and CPR cards in the mail today. That means I’m an official resident and I have health insurance! It’s a big day.

Hello from long tour!
I can’t really update because all I have is my iPod, but I just wanted to check in quickly. Tallinn was great and I survived the ferry to Stockholm. Now we have two more days in Sweden before we head home. It’s been a lot of fun so far, so I can only imagine that the next couple of days will be awesome. I’ll be back soon with some real updates and lots of pictures!
